Postpartum Daily
Your Body Just Did Something Supernatural
Watch the Day 1 Video
🤍 Welcome to The Fourth Trimester Sanctuary
Hi mama 🤍
If this is your first day postpartum, I want you to know this:
What your body is doing right now is natural—even if it feels overwhelming.
This space was created to guide you, gently and daily, through your healing journey. You don’t have to figure this out alone.
🤍 What’s Happening in Your Body
Your body is transitioning from pregnancy to recovery. Your uterus is contracting back to its pre-pregnancy size, your hormone levels are rapidly shifting, and your body is releasing blood and tissue as part of the healing process.
You may feel heavy bleeding, cramping, soreness, and deep fatigue. This is your body actively working to heal—not failing.
⚖️ Healthy vs. Dangerous
✅ Heavy Bleeding (Lochia)
Bleeding after birth is expected and can be similar to a heavy period during the first few days. This is your body shedding the uterine lining and healing internally. The flow should gradually slow over time and change in color from bright red to lighter shades.
✅ Cramping (Afterpains)
Cramping occurs as your uterus contracts to return to its normal size. These sensations may feel stronger during breastfeeding because your body releases oxytocin, which supports uterine healing. While uncomfortable, this is a sign your body is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do.
✅ Fatigue
Your body has gone through a major physical event and is now working to repair itself. Combined with interrupted sleep, it’s completely normal to feel exhausted. Rest is not a luxury—it is essential to your recovery.
⚠️ Soaking a Pad in Under 1 Hour
Bleeding that soaks through a pad within an hour may indicate excessive blood loss. This is not typical postpartum bleeding and requires immediate medical attention. Do not wait to seek care.
⚠️ Large Blood Clots
Passing small clots can be normal, but clots the size of a golf ball or larger are a concern. This may indicate your body is not properly regulating bleeding. Contact your provider right away if this occurs.
⚠️ Dizziness or Weakness
Feeling faint, dizzy, or unusually weak may be a sign of significant blood loss or another complication. While fatigue is expected, you should not feel unstable. Seek medical care immediately if you notice these symptoms.
🌿 What You Can Do Today
🛌 Rest
Your body needs stillness to heal. Give yourself permission to slow down and avoid unnecessary movement or pressure to do anything beyond resting.
💧 Hydration
Drink plenty of fluids, including water, warm teas, or broths. Hydration supports circulation, energy levels, and overall healing—especially if you are bleeding or breastfeeding.
🚿 Gentle Care
Use a peri bottle to cleanse sensitive areas gently. Avoid harsh wiping or irritation, and prioritize comfort as your body begins to recover.
🤍 What You Might Be Feeling Today
You may feel overwhelmed, emotional, or unsure of yourself today. You just experienced a major shift—physically, mentally, and emotionally—and it’s normal for your feelings to come in waves.
You might feel deep love for your baby one moment, and exhaustion or doubt the next. Both can exist at the same time, and neither means you’re doing anything wrong.
🌿 Sanctuary Tip of the Day
Place everything you need within arm’s reach today—water, snacks, pads, baby essentials, and your phone. The less you have to get up and move around, the more your body can focus on healing.
Small adjustments like this can make your day feel more manageable and supportive.
🍼 A Gentle Note About Your Baby
Your baby is also adjusting to a brand new world. Frequent crying, cluster feeding, and needing constant closeness are all normal behaviors during these first few days.
Skin-to-skin contact can help regulate your baby’s temperature, breathing, and heart rate, while also strengthening your bond and supporting your emotional well-being.
✨ Affirmation of the Day
I am allowed to rest.
My body is healing.
I am doing enough.
🤍 Closing
Your body just did something powerful—now it’s time to heal, slowly and intentionally.
